“The most terrible poverty is loneliness, and the feeling of being unloved.” Mother Theresa
I like to say that if God wanted us to be by ourselves, He would have given us each our own planet. There are times that my own planet sounds exactly like what I need, but God wants us together (we are on the same planet!) But sometimes you might feel like you are alone even surrounded by tons of people.
We still feel lonely, like no one really knows us, that no one really cares.
LONELINESS SURVEY & FREE REESOURCE
A single mother emailed me:
“It is still incredibly easy to feel invisible at my church, for a number of reasons, even though I worked there for a long time. And the longer that goes on, the harder it is to admit that I’m lonely…”
And David Brooks wrote that 35% of Americans over 45 are chronically lonely. Only 8% report having important conversations with their neighbor in a given year.
